Bus Drivers left with little choice - Macdonald

1 March 2018

Commenting on the news that First Aberdeen Bus Drivers have voted 95% in favour of strike action, North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald said :

“Clearly there will be concerns about the disruption the strike will cause, but the responsibility lies squarely with the management of First Aberdeen.

"They have unilaterally imposed changes to terms and conditions which means their most loyal and long serving drivers will be forced to do more while being paid less”

“I know that drivers and Unite the Union tried to engage with management, but unfortunately the employers seem determined to force through these changes.”

“Not only are drivers facing a significant pay cut, some will be expected to be on the road for ten hours a day.

"Understandably, drivers have raised their concerns about being on the road for this length of time.

"The fact that 95% of drivers voted for strike action shows just how strongly they feel about the impact of these imposed changes.”
