Muller job losses more bad news for NE economy - Macdonald

North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald today urged Scottish Ministers to do more to halt job cuts in the North East food processing industry, after Muller announced the closure of its East Tullos dairy, with the loss of 90 jobs.

Lewis said :

“The news that yet more food processing jobs are being moved out of the North East is deplorable, and will only add to concerns about the local economy.

“The workers at Muller’s East Tullos dairy need and deserve the full support of Scottish Ministers, ideally to save their current positions or to provide meaningful support for the future.

“Scottish Ministers set up a taskforce when Young’s in Fraserburgh announced widescale job losses, but so far little has been achieved in terms of protecting jobs or restoring confidence in that part of the region.

“It is time the SNP Government lived up to their election pledge to govern for the whole of Scotland and not just the Central Belt, and take decisive action to protect jobs and support workers in all sectors of the North a East economy.”
