MSP welcomes Offshore Wind Farm’s first generated power

4 July 2018

North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald has lodged a parliamentary motion welcoming the news that the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) in Aberdeen has generated power for the first time.

The 93.2 megawatt wind farm is the largest of its kind in Scotland and the most powerful of its 11 turbines produce more electricity than any other turbine on the planet.

A single rotation of a single turbine can generate enough energy to power a home for a whole day.

Lewis said :

“Having had the opportunity to visit the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm recently, I am delighted that it is now beginning to produce power.

"I want to congratulate the developers Vattenfall and the Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group for this truly impressive accomplishment.

“This development is a not just a reminder about Aberdeen’s standing as the energy capital of Europe, but also its forward looking approach to energy production.”
