Macdonald supports “Calls for Cancer” campaign
North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald has added his support to Cancer Research UK’s ‘Calls for Cancer’ campaign, which sets out what political parties should do to ensure cancer patients are diagnosed earlier and have greater access to the best possible treatments.
“Every year nearly 3,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in the NHS Grampian region, and while survival rates are improving there are still too many people dying from this terrible group of conditions.
“The “Calls for Cancer” campaign highlights the importance of early diagnosis, and NHS Grampian must be given the financial support it needs to improve its waiting times for diagnostic tests.
A"t the moment, only 77.6% of patients in the North East are seen within six weeks, compared to the Scottish average of 91.1%
“The political will to beat the disease must match the pace of progress in research.
"That’s why I’m backing Cancer Research UK’s campaign, to help bring forward the day when no-one’s life is cut short by cancer.”
