Oil and gas job losses felt “most keenly” in North East - Macdonald

Responding to Oil & Gas UK’s latest figures on losses in and related to the oil and gas industry, North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald said today:

“These figures are a clear indication of the impact the oil and gas crisis is having on our economy and on the individuals who have lost their jobs.

“While the 120,000 figure may come from across the UK, there is no doubt that this crisis is being most keenly felt in Aberdeen and the North East because of the concentration of job losses in this area.

“The recent announcement by Aberdeen City Council of its second North Sea Oil summit, involving industry leaders, trade unions and politicians, could not have come at more important time for the industry, and I hope that both the UK and Scottish Governments will give their support to this event, and take action to protect jobs and businesses in the North East economy going forward."
