Bailey Gwynne : MSP backs recommendations by Report
11 October 2016
North East MSP Lewis Macdonald has backed the recommendations made in today’s report into the killing of Aberdeen teenager Bailey Gwynne.
Speaking after the publication of the report, Lewis Macdonald said today:
“No-one wants to see a tragic event like this happen in our schools ever again, and it is therefore vital that the recommendations made in today’s report are addressed by both Aberdeen City Council and the Scottish Government.
“The report highlights an issue with the law in this area, which requires headteachers to have consent in some cases before they search pupils for offensive weapons. It also highlights the need to review the law about the sale of weapons online.
“The family of Bailey Gwynne and his friends have already experienced what can happen when young people carry weapons. There is an urgent need to review the law in both these areas if we are to keep pupils safe when they go to school.”
