MSP welcomes Sports Personality of the Year to Aberdeen

17 September 2019

North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald has tabled a parliamentary motion, welcoming the announcement that the BBC Sports Personality of the Year is to take place at the P&J Live Arena in Aberdeen in December.

Lewis said:

“This is a great coup for the city and for The Exhibition Complex Aberdeen (TECA) and the P&J Live Arena.

“The BBC Sports Personality of the Year is one of the highlights of the TV sporting calendar and it is fantastic news that this prestigious event is coming to Aberdeen.

“TECA has only been open since August and is already attracting some of the biggest names in music and comedy. The BBC Sports Personality of the Year is a national event which will help raise the profile of Aberdeen and the North East.”

The text of Lewis's motion reads :

That the Parliament congratulates The Events Complex Aberdeen (TECA) on being named as the host of the 2019 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards; understands the prestigious event, which will take place in the P&J Live Arena, will recognise the best sporting performances by teams, young people and overseas sports stars, culminating in the award of the Personality of the Year trophy; believes that this is a major coup for TECA and the P&J Live Arena, which only opened in August, thanks to investment and support from Aberdeen City Council, and looks forward to the ceremony, which will take place on 15 December.
