MSP probes final cost of AWPR

19 February 2019

North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald today pressed the Scottish Government to confirm what the annual cost and the total cost will be of payments to contractors on the AWPR over the next thirty years, and whether the last payments to Aberdeen Roads Limited are still scheduled for 2048.

Lewis said:

“The Scottish Government website says that taxpayers will be paying an average charge to the contractors of £48 million a year for thirty years, which comes to a total bill of £1.45 billion over that time. “Payments to Aberdeen Road Limited are scheduled to end in 2048.

“Unfortunately, the Scottish Government website hasn’t been updated for nearly a year, so I asked Cabinet Secretary Michael Matheson whether he was confident these numbers had not changed.

“I welcome his general reassurances on this matter, but clearly Ministers will need to keep these very high costs under review in the next few months.”
