The Garioch leading light in Scottish solar power - Macdonald

North East Labour MSP and Shadow Energy Minister Lewis Macdonald has welcomed new figures which show the Aberdeenshire district of the Garioch is leading the way in solar power generation in Scotland.

Lewis Macdonald said:

“The AB51 postcode, including Inverurie, Oldmeldrum and Rothienorman, is Scotland’s leading light when it comes to solar power generation.

“This area of the North East boasts around 10,000 250W solar panels, more than any other postcode area in Scotland according to figures from Scottish Renewables and the Scottish Agricultural College.

“It is welcome news that North East landowners, farmers and homeowners are setting the pace when it comes to the installation of solar panels. I hope that the North East will also lead the way in social landlord and community-owned solar projects in the years to come.

“Solar power has a valuable role to play in Scotland’s future energy supply, and small-scale projects should be wholeheartedly supported by both industry and government.”
