MSP “disappointed” as Aberdeen air routes axed

20 February 2018

Commenting on the announcement by Icelandair that it is to end its Aberdeen to Reykjavik air route from May, North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald said :

“This is disappointing news for Aberdeen Airport and very disappointing news for travellers from across the North and North East of Scotland.

"As well as providing direct access to Iceland as a destination in its own right, this route also allows travellers to connect to ongoing flights to the US and Canada.

“Coming hard on the heels of the cancellation by Loganair of its Aberdeen to Durham-Tees Valley Airport last week, this is bad news for the North East economy at what is already a tough time.

“The Scottish Government has resisted calls to bring back Labour’s successful Route Development Fund, instead focusing its investment on a struggling Prestwick Airport.

"It is time to look again at how government can best support future route development from airports such as Aberdeen.”
